BulejeKeller Graduate School of Management Mario Smith Based on your use of streaming services, do you feel the streaming platforms differ in terms of stand-alone value (e.g., fidelity, ease of use, recommender systems, etc.)? I am subscribed to Amazon video, Disney plus, HBO max and Netflix streaming services. It is my opinion that each of these streaming services has no unique stand-alone value. In fact they share a similar stand-alone value as it relates to ease of use, fidelity and recommendation algorithms. They are all reputable streaming platforms in my opinion which is among the reasons I subscribed. The recommendation algorithms are pretty standard among all of them, recommending movies and shows that align with genres that I watch regularly. Each platform is easy to use with standard sorting and searching of movie titles and shows across various genres and highliting their new and original content. Again based on your use, how do you feel the streaming services differ based on the types and quality of the content (the complementary good) they provide? This is where the various streaming platforms distinctively differ. The different types and quality of content is a high priority criteria for selection of a platform secondary to pricing options, at least it is for me. Each platform also showcases exclusive content that can only be found on their platform by way of purchasing rights to the content or the production of its own unique content. Take for example Netflix, there are various types of content that they produced and is therefore only available on their platform. Among my favorite categories are horror, action and anime. Netflix has released several “Netflix exclusives” in the anime category such as The Seven Deadly Sins and Castlevania. This is key if you want to remain competitive and stand out from other streaming platforms. What factors do you think influence a consumer’s choice of whether to subscribe to a streaming service? How important are the standalone features? How important is the content? There are many factors that drive subscriptions to streaming platforms.
