Natasha Ngong Chamberlain University College of Nursing BIOS 252: Anatomy and Physiology II Professor Horn August 4, 2024 Week 4: Nervous System Lab Report Identify a function of the following areas of the brain and brainstem: (5 points; ½ point each) Area Function Frontal lobe It is responsible for higher cognitive functions such as reasoning, planning, problem- solving, emotions, and voluntary movement. Temporal lobe It is responsible for processing auditory information, memory, and language understanding. Occipital lobe It is the primary center for visual processing, which interprets visual input from the eyes. Parietal lobe It processes sensory information such as touch, temperature, and pain and plays a role in spatial orientation and perception. Cerebellum It coordinates voluntary movements, balance, and posture, which is essential for motor control and developing motor abilities. Medulla It regulates autonomic functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure and contains centers for vital reflexes like swallowing. Basal ganglia It regulates voluntary motor movements, learning, and routine behaviors, which are critical for motor control and coordination. Limbic system It is involved in emotion, motivation, and memory; and involves structures such as the hippocampus and amygdala. Amygdala It is important in the processing of emotions, including fear and pleasure, as well as the formation and storage of emotional memory. Hippocampus It plays an important role in memory development and retrieval, as well as spatial navigation and context-related memory. Describe the blood-brain barrier.
