There was a notable increase in hospital admissions for children and teenagers. For individuals under the age of 18, the 2022-23 flu season was characterized by heightened severity in comparison to historical data, with medical visits and hospitalizations related to influenza surpassing or meeting the incidence rates of previous seasons. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that all individuals aged six months and older, without any contraindications, should receive the annual flu vaccine, ideally before the conclusion of October. Among the Influenza A specimens that were subtyped, 49% were included in the analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of the circulating strains and their impact on hospitalized patients. Children under the age of 6 months, who are not eligible for influenza vaccination, were excluded from the study to focus on the impact of the virus on vaccinated individuals. Patients with underlying medical conditions such as asthma, chronic lung disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and others were included in the analysis to assess the severity of influenza in vulnerable populations.
