Whether you are a new graduate or a seasoned nurse, it is important to keep in mind that all professional nurses are knowledge workers. What questions do you have as they relate to nursing informatics and the AACN essentials? Hello Class, AACN Essentials Informatics Self-Assessment I scored a total of 27 out of the possible 48. I noted that I was good (2) in most essential areas with only three getting very good. I did not score excellent in any of the areas. This means that I need improvement in most of the areas to be competent when it comes to aspects of nursing informatics. Informatics is now an integral part of the healthcare systems. Nursing informatics helps in healthcare coordination through the sharing of patient information between caregivers for swift care decisions to be made (Hebda, Hunter, & Czar, 2019). It makes transition of care and decision-making easy. Regarding my self-assessment, it is important to improve on the knowledge about patient care technologies and how they can be applied in the provision of quality and safe care to the patient population. Information technology comes with issues related to ethical standards. Therefore, I need to improve on the recognition and application of security, privacy, and confidentiality measures to ensure patient health information is safe. In this technology era, caregivers and healthcare institutions need to embrace the integration of information technology in healthcare systems (Hebda, Hunter, & Czar, 2019). Therefore, I need to be proactive and participate in the evaluation of information systems in practice settings. This will be necessitated by actively participating in policy-making. I will strive to improve on all areas, by the end this course, to become excellent in matters information technology and informatics. Additionally, I would like to understand the best ways to safeguard health information privacy and confidentiality. Reference (s) Hebda, T., Hunter, K., & Czar, P. (2019).
