Document Overview

During this course, I learned about the policymaking process, in which I learned how to identify an issue and propose a policy related to the issue to the stakeholders. This learning has helped me understand the broader healthcare landscape, including the policies that shape healthcare delivery and the scope of practice for nurse practitioners in different states. This understanding will be crucial for navigating the complex healthcare system during clinical courses and help me become an agent of change by actively participating in initiatives that seek to improve healthcare policies (Rosa et al., 2020). In addition, learning about the legal and ethical implications of action on different healthcare professionals helped me understand the relationships between healthcare providers and APNs and what will be expected of me as a student during clinical courses. I also learned about the importance of advocacy in APN practice, which is not limited to advocating for patients only but also includes advocating for the betterment of healthcare and the profession by influencing policymaking at various levels (Myers, 2020). During the clinical courses, implementing advocacy will help me deliver patient-centered holistic care focusing on equity, quality, and patient empowerment. I like how you emphasize the importance of cultural competence in our prac琀椀ce to improve global healthcare. Global healthcare o昀琀en involves interdisciplinary teams working across borders with people with di昀昀erent cultures and backgrounds. Even in the United States, we now see a surge of refugees and illegal immigrants from all over the world. In this case, cultural competence enables us to communicate e昀昀ec琀椀vely and collaborate with diverse healthcare professionals, leading to more cohesive and integrated healthcare services and reducing health dispari琀椀es at the local and global levels. In addi琀椀on, with our frontline experience and evidence-based knowledge, we can contribute valuable insight to developing global health policies, which can be done by joining organiza琀椀ons and ac琀椀vely par琀椀cipa琀椀ng in public health ini琀椀a琀椀ves (Salvage & White, 2020).
