Reflection on Learning Learning in this course helped me to provide high quality, safe, patient-centered care grounded in holistic health principles. Examples: In the 1st week, we learn the importance of symptoms-based treatment and the importance of social determinants of health in psychiatric patients. Symptom based treatments allow PMHNP to focus on individualized care and comprehensive assessment which is guided by evidence-based practice where PMHNP utilizes current research and resources. It also empowers patients to participate in health care plans and overall enhances optimal mental health and wellbeing. Further, being mindful towards patient’s social determinants of health allow PMHNP to approach patient in holistic manner where PMHNP consider psychological aspect of mental health as well as social, cultural, environmental, and biological factors that contributes to overall individual’s wellbeing. Overall, providing symptom-based treatment and knowing the social determinants of health allow PMHNP to gather information that is needed to provide individualized quality care in a safe and holistic approach. One of the competencies that I met through the learning of this course that meet advance level nursing education competency is: Apply individualized information, such as genetic/genomic, pharmacogenetic, and environmental exposure information in the delivery of personalized health care. For example: In week 1 we learned a standard method for clinical reasoning under differential diagnosis in which we learned a step- by- step approach to formulate a diagnosis. During this based-on patient’s chief complain PMHNP gathers information through client’s history, mental status examination, physical examination and includes genetic, pharmacogenetic and environmental information.
