Companies are diving further and further in to Pla琀昀orm Engineering that is leading to companies wan琀椀ng to design an “Internal Developer Pla琀昀orm”. By having such a pla琀昀orm internally, it can focus on the company’s internal development prac琀椀ces without having all of the heads of the companies come together to build plans for each so昀琀ware they use. I have found a great example used by Microso昀琀 to be琀琀er explain how having an internal developer pla琀昀orm can innovate the way a company operates; “ To use a real-world analogy, new paths o昀琀en start out as dirt trails, but as more people use them, they're paved to improve safety while maintaining velocity and throughput.” (Juliakm, 2023). Having a dedicated pla琀昀orm that can provide a default way of doing things can help the process of how companies execute project plans. There has to be some sort of MOP (Method of Procedure) for companies to stay consistent with how they do their work. What is Platform Engineering Used For? Of course, every company has di昀昀erent needs. Even if each company provides the same product, the structure will always be di昀昀erent and tailored to what the company wants to accomplish. Ul琀椀mately Pla琀昀orm Engineering is used to enhance user experience and produc琀椀vity. Pla琀昀orm engineers will have deep understanding of the so昀琀ware engineering side of things work within the company. They would be able to help end users with the so昀琀ware they need.
