Acetaminophen is a non-opioid agent indicated for pain and fever (Gerriets et al., 2024). Dextromethorphan (DM): take per label instructions. DM is a cough suppressant often combined with other over-the counter (OTC) formulations (SaeRam Oh et al., 2023). Referrals: None as of this time. Education: Handwashing, avoiding close contact until symptoms side, and increasing fluid intake (Boktor & Hafner, 2023). Antiviral agents for flu are not recommended due to time elapsed since symptoms started (Uyeki et al., 2022). Recommending routine annual flu vaccination as primary prevention (Grohskopf et al., 2025). Follow- up: Proceed to the clinic or go to the emergency room if symptoms worsen or if shortness of breath is experienced, since these may include flu complications (Uyeki et al., 2022).
