NR 718 Week 1 Discussion; Evaluating Leadership Competencies for the Advanced Practice Nurse

Identify and evaluate three competencies that are a strength for you in your current practice. The advanced nurse practice calls for effective leadership competencies to enable them uphold leadership positions in the healthcare systems. The APNs are trained to uphold the leadership positions in the healthcare systems to ensure they work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to shape healthcare reforms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery to help foster improved health outcomes of patients (Blanck-Koester et al., 2020). As I reflect on my leadership competencies, I am passionate that I possess good communication competencies which enables me to foster good interpersonal relationships with colleagues. Communication is an important competency for nurse leaders as it ensures all the people within the organization are aware of the progress made in achieving the set organizational objectives. Enhancing good communication channels also facilitates easy identification of any prevailing organizational challenges and thus helps initiate timely interventions to curb any prevailing practice gaps that may contribute to adverse health outcomes of patients (Heinen et al., 2019). Another leadership competency I possess is good problem-solving skills which helps to impose strategic measures to tackle the prevailing organizational challenges. In my practice area I serve as a member in the disciplinary committee and I always work out any differences prevailing among the colleagues which helps to maintain a conducive working environment. Problem solving skills plays role in leadership as it enables the leader to make fair judgements and come up with ideal solutions to prevent of such incidences in the future (Heinen et al., 2019). Nurses should use the skills acquired in class to tackle the prevailing organizational challenges and enhance efficiency in service delivery. I also believe that I possess good decision-making skills which enables me to evaluate the nature of the prevailing challenge. Making decision isn’t an easy task and thus calls for the nurse leader to be innovative and creative to adopt the most ideal solution. Through my practice as a nurse, I have encountered diverse challenges and through use of the problem-solving skills I have always made significant outcomes to overcome the prevailing challenges.
