Hello Dr. Bailey and Classmates, Reflecting on my journey in the DNP course is essential for developing my readiness as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) leader. The following structured approach would shine a light on addressing the two prompts regarding my reflection and learning experiences. Analyze and Evaluate How Your Thinking Was Challenged in This Course Related to Leadership as an APN. Leadership Paradigms: In this course, I may have encountered various leadership theories and models that differ from traditional approaches. For instance, I might have engaged with transformational leadership, which emphasizes motivating and inspiring followers, contrasted with transactional leadership, which focuses on supervising and rewarding compliance (Department of Health and Human Services, DHHS, 2016). Analyzing these paradigms can challenge my preconceived notions about effective leadership. Interprofessional Collaboration: My thinking regarding collaboration across disciplines may have been expanded, and I may have perceived my role as an APN as somewhat isolated; however, discussions about interprofessional teamwork may have highlighted the importance of collaboration in improving patient outcomes (DHHS, 2016). This perspective encourages a shift from individual responsibility to a collective approach to healthcare. Ethical Considerations in Leadership: The course may have prompted me to rethink ethical dilemmas and decision-making processes that leaders face in healthcare settings (ANA, 2015). Engaging with case studies or dilemmas may have highlighted complexities in communication, resource allocation, and advocacy, challenging me to consider my ethical stance and how it influences leadership decisions (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, (NASEM), 2021). Self-Assessment and Reflection: I probably engaged in numerous reflective exercises that encouraged self-assessment of my leadership style and competencies. This introspection might have uncovered strengths but also areas where I need improvement, pushing me to confront aspects of my leadership practice that I previously overlooked (ANA, 2015).
