PROJ 586 Week 2 Discussion; Work Breakdown Structure and Resource Assignments

WEEK 2: WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE AND RESOURCE ASSIGNMENTS Assume you were appointed as project manager to lead a dozen of your classmates to write up an end-of-course summary guide that would be used to update all areas of the course (i.e., discussion questions, lessons, assignments, and readings). You plan to form sub-teams to work each of these elements, each headed by a sub-team leader. How would you set up your WBS? What are some considerations you made when you decided on this structure? You are to submit three quality posts over 3 different days, with the first post on or before Wednesday for each graded discussion topic. Answer: 1. Dr. Jay I would attack the WBS by breaking the subgroups (4 each) and assigning group leaders to compile a list of improvements for each area of focus for a presentation. Once completed the groups would proceed to present their lists in front of the class in order to receive additional input and possible improvements missed. I took this small group concentration approach to each area of focus to ensure concentration and avoid too much chaos coming from an entire group at once. Smaller groups give people more room to talk and express their opinions, since larger groups can be intimidating and make people shutdown. Once the groups have got the chance to work individually the members would be relaxed and more open to express themselves in a bigger group.
