Introduction The Florence Nightingale days, back in the 1800’s, is when evidence- based practice was used. Florence Nightingale used patient’s outcomes and made decisions on how she will care for them. Evidenced- based practice has been around before many of us were born, as in 1992 when medicine was officially introduced. Medicine was introduced by a physician, who was Scottish, Archibald Cochrane (Stavrou et. al, 2018). Clinical knowledge, research, and the choices of the patient on improving clinical practice or their outcome is the high-quality usages of evidenced- based practice (Abu-Baker et. al, 2021). The models of evidenced- based practice creates a framework for those working on the process of making decisions by starting with a clinical question. One model is the John Hopkins Nursing Evidenced-Based Practice: Model and Guidelines (JHNEBP). This model continues to serve as a guide to developing and improving the quality of clinicals and improving patient outcomes. The area of focus is medical surgical units, and the decrease in Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) by providing hospitalized patients with daily chlorhexidine baths. This paper will discuss the John Hopkins Model, give an example of a clinical practice question, and provide two ways on how the model can be applied in practice. Description of the Model The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice: Model and Guidelines helps solve problems in making clinical decisions. The process is nineteen steps and three phases with an identification of practice questions, evidence, and translation (PET). The initial phase of the model is developing a practice question. These phases consist of steps 1-6. At this point gathering a team helps address any concern about the question in case more evidence is needed Practice Application The model of John Hopkins Nursing Evidence Based Practice has been used as a guide for change. When using the patient question, evidence, and translation process, it guides in developing a PICOT question, research, and result translation. The management guide of the project, Appendix A, will help aid in all nineteen steps being completed and recorded correctly. The JHNEBP hold many tools in aiding in completing of evidence-based practice improvements. Appendix D is use as a guide in determining the amount and quality of evidence. In Appendix E, the evidence tool will aid in the appraisal of the research study determining the quality and type. Appendix F uses the same appraisal but can be completed for evidence that is nonresearched. Using all three Appendixes D, E, and F will help me in deciding if the research is of high quality. The action planning tool of JHNEBP is considered Appendix I. Appendix I is used as a guide within the final steps of evaluating the gathered information and developing a plan of action. Lastly, Appendix J, is the tool of dissemination where the findings are viewed. The goal of the model is to ensure that the latest research findings and best practices are quickly and appropriately incorporated into patient care (Dearholt et. al, 2021).
