Document Overview
Where in the World is Evidence-Based Practice? March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world. When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP. In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP. Module 1- Week 1 Discussion Evidence-based practice (EBP) involves the use of the conscientious, problem-solving approach in clinical practice (Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle, n.d). In clinical practice, information on EBP can be collected from studies, clinician expertise, and patient preferences. There is no standard formula on how EBP is used in decision making; instead, it is based on varieties of rating systems of strength and quality of gathered evidence from research report or study (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). In providing care to patients, having the knowledge of using the current and best evidence-based practice (EBP) is vital for every clinician. As a professional nurse, to understand the use of EBP, the World Health Organization (WHO) will be evaluated. EBP appears in the vision and mission of WHO. The vision of the WHO organization inspires the people of the world to attain the highest level of health, while the mission promotes health, serves the vulnerable, and keeps the world safe (WHO, 2019). Many initiatives have shown that this healthcare organization is grounded in EBP. One initiative seen on the page of the WHO website is professionals aiming for excellence, which is demonstrated by their best real science, technical, and evidence proficiency to perform their roles. Professionals who seek excellence shows that they can adjust to any changes guided by the interventions of EBP. Another initiative part of the WHO website is that it lists health research seminars topics presented in 2011 under the global health histories on the WHO website. Each research seminars topics have shown data and research outcomes that give lots of evidence-based recommendation of any health issues (WHO, 2019). The displayed data portrays evidence-based practice that guides the delivery of patient care. The last initiative seen on the WHO website is named the Fourth Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety. The WHO director-general in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held it to ensures that every healthcare professional understands and practices the best practices that are based on evidence to ensure that patients are safe. From looking at the WHO website, one thing that this writer enjoyed about the site is that it provides clear policies, better data, and uses evidence-based practice tools to train health workers while improving healthcare problems. The qualities the website possesses changed this writer’s perception, thus allowing for the healthcare organization to be regarded with high importance.
