Why you chose this article and/or how it relates to the clinical issue of interest (include a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest) I chose this article as it further investigates whether or not spinal immobilization contributes to the mortality of trauma patients. The use of spinal immobilization began in 1978 from the first class of ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) with little evidence to support therefore there needs to be further research into the need of pre-hospital spinal immobilization (Abram & Bulstrode, 2010). After a thorough review of the article there is no mention of the ethics of the research of the clinical issue. I chose this article as it uses different types of research methodologies to examine the risks versus benefits of spinal immobilization in patients with penetration traumas. The explanation of ethics in this article includes the improvement of penetrating trauma patients’ outcomes. This article shows that there may be an increase in complications when spinal immobilization is used in patients with penetrating traumas (Long, et al, 2019). I chose this article as it addresses decreasing the burdens of emergency departments by evaluating the need of spinal immobilization in all trauma patients. It also addresses the need for a universal protocol for pre hospital assessment of trauma patients by EMS to evaluate the need for full spinal immobilization due to there being less than 1% of all trauma patients that suffer a spinal cord injury (Vaillancourt, et al, 2011). I chose this article due to its contributions to my clinical issue of interest. This article reviews the evidence on the topic of prehospital spine immobilization in patients with penetrating trauma to structure a practice management guideline (Velopulos, 2018). Upon thorough examination of article there was no mention of ethics in the article as the information for the study was pulled from informatics from electronic medical records. Brief description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article The aim of research in this article is to review the risk/benefit analysis of pre-hospital spinal immobilization in trauma patients. To determine whether or not spinal immobilization
