NR 511 Week 1 Discussion and Response; Clinical Preparedness

Hello Professor, My clinical site is in Lombard, Illinois named primary care services, inc. At this loca琀椀on provider prac琀椀ce internal medicine. Providers do not provide services to the pediatric pa琀椀ents. There are two students including me for the training at this site. I have planned to go for training every week Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Goal for the 昀椀rst day is to be familiar with the clinic, services provided by the clinic, familiar myself with EMR system used by clinic, and shadowing preceptor. At the end of the session, I want to learn about interview technique for focused assessment, learning about di昀昀eren琀椀al diagnosis and ordering the test to con昀椀rm diagnosis, and interven琀椀on needed to be implemented depending on test results. In the 昀椀rst clinical rota琀椀on it is my goal to review the list of procedure and try to learn as much as possible procedure so I can prac琀椀ce those procedure during all other rota琀椀on. During the NP rota琀椀on there are many things that will be di昀昀erent then the undergraduate rota琀椀on. In undergraduate rota琀椀on student can assess the pa琀椀ent and provide the informa琀椀on to physician. In the NP rota琀椀on student needs to involve in assessment, gathering informa琀椀on, processing the informa琀椀on through cri琀椀cal thinking and intervene for the disease process. Rota琀椀on is the 琀椀me when NP student can learn about the di昀昀eren琀椀al diagnosis, ordering appropriate test and providing treatment plan informa琀椀on to the pa琀椀ent. There are some factors that can a昀昀ect my comple琀椀on goal for this rota琀椀on. the 昀椀rst one is cri琀椀cal thinking and choosing proper diagnosis. This hurdle can be overcome by asking ques琀椀ons to preceptor and using the clinical prac琀椀ce guideline. There are many resources are available that can be reviewed for diagnosis and treatment plan. Another factor is therapeu琀椀c communica琀椀on and collabora琀椀on with pa琀椀ent and other professionals. For communica琀椀on with pa琀椀ent 昀椀rst I will look up the pro昀椀le and previous visit report. If pa琀椀ent is coming for the 昀椀rst 琀椀me, then I will use the ac琀椀ve listening skill together the informa琀椀on. There are many resources available online to use for evidence-based prac琀椀ce in primary care. Center of Disease Control have more recent and updated guideline for the diseases that can be managed in outpa琀椀ent se琀��ng such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, thyroid, common infec琀椀on, and heart failure. American Heart Associa琀椀on is the website where I can 昀椀nd the informa琀椀on about di昀昀erent types of heart diseases and their treatment plan.
