Document Overview

Part II: Delegation Summary Paper In healthcare, delegation involves the process were a Registered Nurse (RN) assigns a portion of patient care to another qualified healthcare professional, such as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), while the RN retains overall accountability. The process of delegating care involves complex decision-making, where nurses must demonstrate leadership and change management skills to establish team cohesion, support patients, and ensure the effective implementation of nursing activities (Moradi et al., 2024). Delegation of care allows nurses to allocate more time for patient care, education, and support. The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of a scenario involving the proper delegation of a task from one qualified individual to another. This paper will explore the key aspects of delegation, from identifying the task to evaluating its completion and reflecting on the experience. The delegation topic that was chosen by the nurse leader in the video was checking patient’s blood glucose levels before meals and at bedtime. This aims to ensure proper diabetes management by monitoring sugar levels to help guide treatment decisions and prevent complications, including tracking effectiveness of diabetes medications and adjusting dosages as needed. Traditionally, this task is performed by the patients RN; however, with nursing shortages and increased demand, delegating this task to nursing assistants has become a potential solution. Proper and principled delegation of authority enhances nurses’ knowledge, decision-making abilities, and competence. It also improves communication skills, reduces missed care, and minimizes delays in care (Moradi et al., 2024). was pretty pleased with the way it turned out, given this was the fifth attempt. I feel as though the information explained in the video was accurate, my tone conveyed the information well, and my pitch was adequate during the entire video. I believe I was thorough with my explanations, what was expected from the delegate, and ensured all major points were involved. Conclusion Delegating is a fundamental and crucial of healthcare, allowing healthcare professionals to properly distribute tasks efficiently while maintaining patient safety and overall quality of care. Effective delegation requires careful consideration of the delegatee’s skills and experiences, while maintaining clear, concise communication, and appropriate supervision. By ensuring the rights of delegation are in place, designated healthcare professionals can delegate tasks safely, minimize risks, and ensure effective and safe care delivery. When determining what aspects of care can be delegated, the licensed nurse uses clinical judgment while considering the client’s current clinical condition, as well as the abilities of the health care team member (Ernstmeyer et al., 2024). This assignment was a great refresher of what proper delegation is supposed to look like within the healthcare field. The most significant takeaway from this assignment for me was learning that delegation is a whole process that requires various steps, careful thought, and planning. The nurse leader has various roles and responsibilities, especially when delegating specific tasks, and needs to always remember that they’re ultimately responsible for appropriate delegation, supervising, maintaining patient safety and safe
