One way to do this is by providing routines that feel calm and supportive. The child should feel safe in expressing themselves and that they can trust their caregiver. In creating a trusting environment the caregiver should emphasize that they care and are genuinely interested in the child's success. Key ways to accomplish this is by always being present and practicing active listening skills., providing individualized attention, and other positive reinforcements. When establishing boundaries and expectations it is imperative that the child knows the rules and any consequences to repercussions for breaking the rules. This is foundational to the child feeling safe and secure. (Crosby et al., 2019) References Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). (2022, June 6).
