Natasha Ngong Chamberlain University College of Nursing BIOS 251: Anatomy and Physiology Professor Zille May 26, 2024 Deliverables Please address the following questions in complete sentences. What is the normal function of Lysosomes? Lysosomes are membrane-bound organelles found in eukaryotic cells, and their job is to digest and recycle waste from cells, defective organelles, and macromolecules. What are the monomers of the Hexosaminidase A enzyme? The monomers of the hexosaminidase A enzyme are: Alpha Subunit Beta Subunit What is the composition of a cell’s plasma membrane? The plasma membrane is a complex and dynamic structure composed of several compounds. Its main components are: Phospholipids Proteins Cholesterol Carbohydrates List all the non-membrane-bound and all the membrane-bound cellular organelles in a eukaryotic cell. Membrane-bound organelles The nucleus contains the cell's genetic material (DNA) The Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is comprised of the *Rough ER: Ribosome-rich region responsible for protein synthesis and processing. *Smooth ER: Free of ribosomes; engages in lipid synthesis and detoxification. The Golgi apparatus modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and lipids before they are delivered to other organelles. The Mitochondria is the cell's powerhouse, responsible for producing ATP through oxidative phosphorylation. Lysosomes contain digestive enzymes that break down waste products and damaged cells Peroxisomes contain enzymes that detoxify toxic chemicals and metabolize fatty acids. The Vesicles are tiny membrane-bound sacs that transport materials throughout the cell. Non-membrane-bound organelles Ribosom
