Good afternoon Dr. Kreman and class, The American Nurses Association & American Psychiatric Nurses Association are organizations that provide resources for psychiatric health nurses. The associations are committed to education for psychiatric mental health nurses, and focus on prevention of mental health issues, as well as treatment for individuals with psychiatric disorders (American Nurses Association, 2014). The American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the International Society of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses revised the scope of practice to include standards of health and mental health nursing practice these standards apply to both psychiatric mental health registered nurses as well as psychiatric mental health APRN’s. One of the standards of practice for psychiatric mental health nursing that I have interest in is standard 5B health teaching and health promotion. The summaries that encompass this standard of care include health teaching for consumer needs which includes topics related to relapse prevention, stress management, and crisis management. The nurse practitioner’s role is to integrate knowledge on best evidence-based practices. Additionally, the psychiatric mental health nurse partitioner (PMHNP) will provide guidance in the form of education to patients and their families as well as providing access to quality information to reduce or risk psychiatric mental health disorders (Kumar et al., 2020). The responsibilities of the PMHNP provider role are founded on a therapeutic relationship between the provider and the patient. It is the duty of the PMHNP to include education for patients and families which may include health information that patients have readily accessible for example internet information resources, and easy to understand quality health information to promote education at a developmental level. As a practicing PMHNP, my response to clients who have requested medications based on the internet will begin with education. Before education can begin, providers must understand the patient's background, reading level, and how he or she learns best. It is essential to understand the individual teaching preferences of each patient before instituting education. It is equally important for clients to fully understand their diagnosis and the chosen treatments. I will provide trusted educational sites or literature for my clients and inform them that not all information on internet sites can be trusted. I will allow time for my clients to ask questions regarding their medications and respond with evidence- based practice information that they can understand according to their literacy level. Research standard 5A coordination of care refers to the management, coordination, and guidance the PMHNP contributes to the healthcare consumer and their family (American Nurses Association, 2014). The competencies associated with this standard include implementation and management of the consumer’s health plan, advocating for the delivery of professional and humane care by the interprofessional team, and providing
