NR 548 Week 2 Discussion; Standard 5A Coordination of Care, Standard 5D Prescriptive Authority (Main Post)

Standard 5A: Coordination of Care Working with the patient and any significant others to implement plan of care safely and effective. Using evidence-based interventions designed specifically for the specific patient Supervising ancillary staff in providing interventions Collaborate with colleagues and other members of the IDT Patient advocate Utilize community resources Demonstrates leadership skills that emphasize ethical and critical decision making, effective working relationships, and a systems perspective Leads interprofessional teams to communicate, collaborate, and consult effectively Standard 5D: Prescriptive Authority Using evidence-based interventions designed specifically for the specific patient Provide care and treatment (medications) related to psychiatric, substance and medical diagnosis. Provide holistic care – taking the whole person into consideration not just the diagnosis Manage psychiatric emergencies by determining level of emergency and initiating treatment Uses prescriptive authority, procedures, referrals, treatments, and therapies, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations Zrescribes traditional and integrative evidence-based treatments, therapies, and future practice. In my future practice I know Standard 5A will be extremely important. I will be the point of contact for my patients mental and medical needs. It will be important for me to conduct intake evaluations for mental health while simultaneously completing physical examinations required during the admission process. Part of this procedure will include prescribing and supervising all physical and mental health medications. I will also make it a priority to communicate with my patient, family members and significant others about all aspects of the plan of care. I will take the lead in coordinating the health care process with all the patient’s healthcare team With Standard 5D I will be guided in my practice with prescribing all needed pharmaceuticals which I will depend on my pharmacology and physiology training. I will stay relevant by attending available continuing education seminars, current relevant publications and seeking out advice from other healthcare professionals.
