Document Overview
Provide an example of how therapeutic communication techniques differ between nurses and psychiatric mental health practitioners (PMHNPs). Both a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner (PMHNP) are trained to communicate effectively with patients and to recognize the nonverbal signs that they give off. The provision of care requires, in both cases, the delivery of emotional support using therapeutic dialogue. The care that is offered by either option considers the individual's whole set of requirements as well as their treatment plan. These heroes in healthcare are also skilled at handling crises and keeping their cool during emergency situations. The care provided by the PMHNP places an emphasis on advanced evaluation skills, pharmacologic treatments and their effects, diagnoses, and the prescription of therapies to address symptoms or disorders. It also requires taking a comprehensive approach to treating the patient. The nursing process and assessments, therapeutic communication, the administration of drugs, and the monitoring for effectiveness are the driving forces behind RN care. Sharma & Gupta (2022). Select one verbal component of therapeutic communication. Discuss the importance of the component in relation to the overall goal of a therapeutic alliance. PMHNPs are highly competent in a variety of therapeutic communication approaches. There is a therapeutic communication strategy known as giving broad openings, and it is frequently most beneficial when patients drive the flow of discussion and determine what to talk about. To that aim, providing patients with a broad opening such as "What's on your mind today?" or "What would you want to talk about?" can be an effective strategy to provide patients the opportunity to discuss the things that are on their minds. A therapeutic bond can be formed in this manner as well. The therapeutic partnership is the single most critical factor in the success of all psychotherapies. Building rapport is an art form in and of itself. Carlat (2017). Select one nonverbal component of therapeutic communication. Discuss the importance of the component in relation to the overall goal of a therapeutic alliance. The patient can feel acknowledged and in control of their situation when a nurse uses non-verbal communication with them, such as remaining silent and actively listening to what the patient has to say. The nurse can actively listen to the patient by leaning forward, facing the patient, and maintaining eye contact throughout the interaction. Discuss one pitfall to avoid when establishing a therapeutic alliance. Identify strategies the PMHNP can use to avoid this pitfall.
