Forrest Chamberlain University of Nursing PHIL347N Professor Dr. Buck March 10, 2024 Journal Critical Thinking To me, critical thinking is the ability to use your mind to solve any kind of difficulty. It can be defined as having the ability to assess situations, comprehend one's environment, and be aware of one's emotions in order to react appropriately. Both simple and complex circumstances necessitate thought processes. The ability to think critically is a person's special means of making the best possible decisions in a given circumstance. It is important to be able to see things from multiple angles when engaging in critical thinking. Critical thinking is another kind of knowledge that is not testable and is instead only learned by lifelong experiences or emotions. Critical thinking is a daily skill for nurses because they work in the medical field. Heart of the Matter Considering the situation from the author's point of view, I believe the main point is that we should apply the appropriate standard when using comparative reasoning. “Ideological reasoning can often generate unwarranted metaphysical and moral certitude” (Facione and Gittens, 2016). The author describes that comparative thinking is erroneous and inadequate from an arational standpoint. Because psychosocial circumstances can change our perspective, you should apply the appropriate standards to arrive at a reasonable interpretation. From the author's explanation in this instance, I see that there will be stages that we are going through when using critical analysis. “The intricate interaction of critical thinking skills in real-life problem solving and decision making may begin with an analysis, an interpretation, an inference, or an evaluation” (Facione and Gittens, 2016). The author emphasizes two main points in these sections: first, that moral and correlational thinking are unreliable; second, that in order to be dependable, one should clearly analyze, assess, and offer empirical observations. I define moral reasoning as the application of particular principles and convictions to an individual or group of individuals. Making a meaningful decision can be guided by moral thinking.
