The tobacco industry used doctors as a poster child to push their product while also downplaying the harmful effects of their product such as the cigarette brand Camel that advertised “more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette” (Gardner). The Opioid industry uses similar tactics as big tobacco such as “falsely claim unfettered health benefits for the product, deny addicting, habituating or unhealthful properties; pay pain-specialists to shill for them.” (Hagan). Doctors are the ones we rely on to form our opinion on health because we automatically assume them to be credible since they’ve gone through years of med-school and we trust them with our personal health. These industries used the trust we have in our doctors to promote their product.    Although these products have been marketed similarly, there is a difference between how they are sold.
