Week 2 Assignment: Journal Chamberlain College of Nursing PHIL347: Critical Thinking DateWeek 2 Assignment: Journal Important Idea “Giving reasons to communicate the basis for our beliefs and decisions are universal in our species” (Faciones & Gittens,2016, p.89). In Chapter 4 of the book, I find this quote to be the most vulnerable and significant idea. We make our choices on the basis of our own convictions. As the author notes, in any language, there is a way to question why (Faciones & Gittens,2016, p.89). These factors are essential to me because they offer a sense of why judgments are reached and on what they have been based. If it is a bad decision, or a good decision. This explanation provides a brief overview as to why we question why. Critical Thinking Ambiguity and uncertainty are the concepts mentioned in chapter 4 which could make interpretation of a claim complicated. Ambiguity means that there is not enough clarification about the topic whether that is a sentence, word, or an art piece. For example, Bob is slow. We should ask ourselves what he is slow with or about. Ambiguity means there are several different interpretations of a topic. Bob, for example, stepped outside with his brother in a hat on. Who wears the hat? Is this Bob, or his brother? There are several interpretations to this phrase. These two definitions cause misunderstandings, as if a claim is not explicit it is unclear and has several meanings that are ambiguous in this situation, then we are misunderstood. Beliefs I believe that all medical personnel should wear personal protective equipment to prevent the transmission of infections among patients, visitors and other medical personnel.
