When they have power over themselves, it means that people do well in life. In addition, studies have shown that kids who practice self-regulation appear to do better at school, with peers, and at home. An individual, for example, finds it hard to regulate their intake of junk food, but they do it while they care about their health and well-being. I still think about my regular activities in order to get myself through my day. System 2 is involved at different points, especially when system 1 experiences anything out of the norm.
