Art Creation & Reflection Your Name Chamberlain New Orleans Submission Date The visual art piece that I have chosen from Chapter 1-6 to use as a point of inspiration is the Last Supper that was created by Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci began working on this art piece in 1495, and completed the painting around 1498. The painting is currently hanging on the wall of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. In the famous scene, it depicts Jesus and his Apostles sharing a final meal before his death and resurrection. During this meal, Jesus revealed that one of his disciples would betray him and hand him over to the authorities for execution. This betrayer would later be known as Judas. Leonardo da Vinci groups all 13 figures together on the same plane. He also planned that the perspectival vanishing point would reside in the head of Jesus. All of the apostles are grouped in patterns of three. Jesus is painted as the vanishing point along with the triangular figure. With red and blue garments, in the center of the Last Supper is a dominant settling force for the eye contrasts immediately with the other triangular arrangements of the apostles (Jacobus & Martin, 2018). Among other contrasting details are the colors of the garments of the apostles. They are paler complementary colors of red, blue, and ochre. Each figure is showing their own specific emotion in this painting. Some of the figures are painted holding a knife in their hand, which would later be use to defend themselves. One figure is gripping a purse that contains what seems to be an awards. The other Apostles appear to be in shock and are whispering among one another. My art piece is named The Final meal. The art piece shows 13 soldiers sitting in a mess hall having their last meal before they having final formation. I was able to come up with this idea for an art piece because I have some military background. If you look carefully, you can see the center person is viewed as a private. There are other soldiers that are in his squad at his table. They all seem to be angry due to the fact all they have to eat on the tables are MRE’s.
