The lesson includes information on Roman architecture, which was greatly influenced by the Greeks and Etruscans. Locate at least two architectural works that were influenced by Greco-Roman architecture. These can be from any time period after the Greco-Roman period but should be from different periods themselves (e.g., one from Renaissance and one from Baroque). Then address the following: What is the function of each structure? According to Jacobus and Martin (2019), architects would traditionally make their buildings in ways that would reveal to others the function or use of the building. The Field Museum is a natural history museum that was built to exhibit collections of natural wonders and cultural artifacts that originally started from a collection of items that was on display in the 1893 World’s Colombian Exposition. It grew so large that they created the current building that had opened to the public in 1921. The collection has now grown to nearly 40 million artifacts and specimens since it first opened in 1894 (Field Museum, 2019). The neoclassical design of the building creates the sense of historical importance that coincides with the overwhelming amount of history inside the walls. The Palace of Versailles is the former royal residence of France from 1682 until 1789 when the French Revolution forced Louis XVI to leave the Versailles for Paris. In 1837, King Louis-Phillipe ordered the Palace of Versailles to become the Museum of the History of France (Château de Versailles, 2019).
