Week 5 Assignment: Art Creation - Music.Dance.Poetry Your Name Chamberlain New Orleans Fall Session Music is one of the most powerful of the arts partly because sounds- more than any other sensory stimulus- create in us involuntary reactions, pleasant or unpleasant (Jacobus & Martin, 2019). The basic musical elements of tone, consonance, dissonance, rhythm, tempo, melody, counterpoint, harmony, dynamics, and contrast. People remember musical lyrics and sounds due to rhythm, tempo, and melody, and harmony. Rhythm is the temporal relationship of sounds, whereas the tempo is the speed the music is played. Many musicians create songs that are surrounded by emotion and passion towards the subject matter. Music can be apart of therapeutic therapy, as it calms its listener. Other musicians create music that is surrounded by their life style. Hank William Jr. knew he wanted to grow up to follow his father’s footsteps as he began performing on stages at 8 years old. By the time he was 11 year s old, he had his first performance at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. As he grew older, Williams Jr got caught into the wild lifestyle of drinking and taking pills while he was on the road. Many of his musical creation we created around his wild and dangerous lifestyle. At the time of musical success, Williams Jr. lifestyle was normal. Hank William Jr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. He created his own musical identity, combining country with Southern rock and blues. An inspirational song that I always listen to is apart of the Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound album by Hank William Jr. Outlaw Women was released by Elektra Records/Curb Records in November 1979. Robert Christgau, stated in the Rock Albums of the Seventies, “ At times son-of-an- outlaw obsession is worse than shtick, but here he does justice to the formula” (Hank Williams Jr, 2019). Hank William Jr. followed his father, Hank William Sr., career by covering his father’s songs and style of music. Williams Jr. enjoyed much success in the 1980s, from which he earned popularity inside and outside country music. There were many influences in William Jr’s life. Some of these influences were Johnny Cash, Fats Domino, Earl Scruggs, and Jerry Lee Lewis. In 1976 Rolling Stone wrote that William’s “mainstream country material has always been among Nashville’s best” (Hank Williams Jr, 2019).
