2 Case Study Analysis of Erectile Dysfunction Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a sexual dysfunction common in men. These men are not able to get complete erection during sexual intercourse. ED can occur at any stage, but with age it increases. There are several basic causes of ED. ED can be categorized as psychological, biological (naturally) or both combinations. There can be several methods to how this is managed but when medication or drugs are involved, examination and a complete history is required (Lowy & Ramanathan, 2022). Scenario The patient presenting is a 58-year-old with ED, a regular issue that can have multicomponent causes. The likely components in this case: 1. Medical History: ➢ Diabetes Type 2: This can cause erectile dysfunction. It can induce endothelial cells in the nerves and small blood vessels of the pennis. (Taylor et, Al., 2019). ➢ Hypertension: can add to vascular problems that lead to ED. ➢ Lisinopril and Metformin: The medications are usually utilized for hypertension and diabetes. There is no proof of medical linking them to ED, It’s vital to review medication interactions and side effects. 2. Psychosocial Factors: ➢ Stress: The patient is stressed at work. Mental health problems and stress can lead to ED. Exploring the patient’s emotional health would be appropriate, as stress may be the source of his condition. 3. Physical Exam: 4 In this scenario, the erectile dysfunction of the patient could be multicomponent, keeping in mind his medical history of hypertension and diabetes, which both are risky conditions for having ED. Also having stress at the workplace could as well add to the condition. Despite the fact that the scenario does not show the patient having a PID or STD, these conditions are a focus when it comes to fertility and should be acknowledged. The patient lack of symptoms and urinalysis such as fever or dysuria, indicates that an infection is not the case.
